Here are the top three stories in Reno today:

  1. The Nevada Humane Society in Reno has paused its intake of cats and kittens amid a deadly virus outbreak. According to shelter officials, 11 cats have died and more than 50 have fallen ill from panleukopenia — a contagious virus with symptoms including diarrhea, loss of appetite, and vomiting. The shelter is also encouraging community members who are able to help by adopting or fostering healthy cats. (KRNV)
  2. First responders from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office assisted in rescuing a downed paraglider Sunday afternoon near the summit of Mount Rose. Crews used a small rope rescue operation due to difficulty accessing the steep slope. The paraglider was rescued in stable condition and transported to a nearby hospital for care. (KOLO)
  3. The University of Nevada, Reno Ski Swap will return to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center this weekend, showcasing new and gently used skiing and snowboarding equipment and apparel. Admission to the swap is free, and proceeds from all sales will help fuel the Wolf Pack Ski Team as it seeks a return to NCAA Division 1 status. The swap will run Friday from 4:00-9:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. (2 News)
