Here are the top three stories today in Reno:
- A Reno resident has gone viral on TikTok for supporting the area's homeless individuals. A user who goes by JustKnate has almost 7 million views on the social media platform for her videos. Knate drives DoorDash to fund her efforts and the cause. The TikToker's followers have also been donating money to support Knate's outreach. (KRNV)
- The Reno Fire Department will be conducting its Fill the Boot fundraiser this weekend. The department will be at the corner of S McCarran Boulevard and South Virginia Street raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association starting at 8:00 a.m. The fundraiser is a department tradition. The Reno Fire Department donates millions each year for research and family services. (KOLO)
- The Reno City Council has chosen its three finalists for the open Ward 5 position. The finalists are Kathleen Taylor, Elliot Malin, and Alex Goff. All three finalists will not participate in a series of meet-and-greets with the community on Aug. 30 and Aug. 31. Councilwoman Jenny Brekhus boycotted the finalist meeting due to concerns about the appointment process. (Reno Gazette Journal)
