Here are the top three stories today in Reno:
- On Wednesday, Mar. 22, Reno-based Ormat Technologies Inc. announced they intend to sue the Biden administration due to their decision to list a rare Nevada toad as endangered. The geothermal energy developer says the listing could hinder the company's latest renewable energy project in Nevada. The company's intention is to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 60 days as a result of violating the Endangered Species Act (ESA). (This Is Reno)
- Darion Jackson, a Sierra Nevada Job Corps student, was recently elected as the new student body president for Truckee Meadows Community College. Jackson originally enrolled in the medical assistant and administration trade program with Job Corps and is now studying as a pre-nursing student at the community college with aspirations of becoming a doctor. (This Is Reno)
- Alexander Assefa, a former Democratic lawmaker in Nevada, has been sentenced to three years of probation for lying about his residency as he ran for office in 2018 and 2020, and for misuse of campaign funds. In November, he pleaded no contest to felony theft and misdemeanor making a false statement of residence charges but was officially sentenced on Thursday in Las Vegas. If Assefa successfully completes his probation, the conviction for his felony will be dismissed. (FOX Reno)
