- The Nevada Faculty Alliance (NFA) is advocating for collective bargaining rights for the Nevada System of Higher Education’s (NSHE) professional employees through Assembly Bill 224, which has bipartisan support from 30 co-sponsors. The bill, which would extend collective bargaining to several NSHE institutions, seeks to improve efficiency, student and faculty retention, equity among faculty and other institution employees, and reduce cost per degree awarded. A recent faculty survey conducted by NFA found that 83 percent of respondents supported the formation of a union to negotiate pay, benefits, and working conditions, with low salaries being a key reason for dissatisfaction among faculty. - The closure of I-80 in Nevada due to heavy snowfall at the beginning of the week caused inconvenience to many travelers and truck drivers. However, some residents found perks in the stormy weather, such as producing a good flow in the Truckee River. Despite this, some locals are over the snow and appreciate the safety measures taken to prevent accidents and deaths on the road. (KTVN)
- The Former University of Nevada, Reno athletics director and head football coach Chris Ault has been appointed to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, along with Jennifer Cohen and David Sayler. They will serve three-year terms starting this spring. Ault served as head football coach and athletics director at Nevada from 1976 to 2012 and will be responsible for selecting four teams for the college football playoff and ranking the other top 25 teams.
