Here are the top three stories today in Reno:
- The Nevada Department of Transportation is advising drivers to plan for additional travel time as northbound Interstate 580 is reduced to two lanes in central Reno for the next two weeks. Since mid-April, lane restrictions have taken place on southbound I-580 as workers milled and placed more than 14,000 tons of new asphalt to resurface the aging southbound interstate. Now, workers will be moving over to the northbound side to resurface those lanes as well. (Carson Now)
- On Tuesday, May 30, former Sparks Fire Chief Mark Lawson was granted a partial court victory following his lawsuit against the City of Sparks. The lawsuit came after Lawson was asked to resign by Sparks' City Manager Neil Krutz for allegedly facing criminal charges of steroid distribution. Lawson claimed that Krutz defamed him, and in a now-deleted YouTube video, Washoe County Second Judicial District Court Judge Kathleen Drakulich agreed. (This Is Reno)
- The top economic development official of Virginia Beach is heading to Reno to take over the area's leading economic development agency. Taylor Adams was recently named the new President and CEO of the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) months after Mike Kazmierski announced his resignation. Adams will be joining the organization as early as Saturday, Jul. 1, but won't officially take on his leadership role until Wednesday, Aug. 16. (MyNews4.com)
