Republican candidate Kristopher Dahir can’t get his head around the push by opponent Jim Marchant to hand count ballots. He concurs with Lyon County Clerk Nikki Bryan, when she says “I have yet to see widespread fraud and human error is more of an issue.”

The push for hand counting ballots has been the cornerstone of the Jim Marchant campaign for Secretary of State.

“In good conscience, I cannot support moving our election process back 20-years to the ultimate case against voting with paper is the 2000 hanging chad fiasco in Florida,” said Dahir. “I have a major concern that we have decisions being encouraged in regards to voting procedures that will bring more confusion than is currently in place today and at a cost that cannot be covered. I am asking all decision makers to pause and consider the unintended consequences of moving in that direction.”

Dahir continued, “Voting results will take longer, be more costly, and open up the door for bad players to have more of a chance to try and manipulate the outcomes. In the end, voting will be less secure. Our job as elected officers is to listen to those in our community and to assure we bring sound leadership and information to each decision we make. Do you think that one party is going to trust the other party to sit there and count their ballots? We are opening the door for too many questions and those pushing this agenda should be questioned at their true motive or inability to see the actual hurtful consequences. I am working hard to be your next Secretary of State for Nevada and to go down the road of hand counted ballots is a mistake.”

Nye County Commissioners approved the hand counting of ballots. Nye County plans to send out more than 30,000 ballots in coming weeks. The AP reported, Nye County Clerk Merlino said, “Going to all-paper might mean ordering another 20,000 ballots to have enough at the polls. She called human error during counting “a very great possibility.” “There are no laws or regulations in our state addressing all-paper ballots, a hand count, and meeting all of our statutory requirements by conducting a hand count. Right now, that is my main concern.”

“Technology is not the enemy and should be used to help save tax payer money when possible and it is also much more accurate than a human count. Computers do not cheat but we know people do. Let’s focus our attention around making the system we have in place the best it can be in the 2022 election cycle."
