- Starting on May 1, the University of Nevada, Reno Multicultural Center will be hosting Affinity Graduation celebrations prior to the spring commencement ceremonies. These celebrations serve to highlight students who have been involved on campus and have served as leaders throughout their time on campus and within the community. The Joe Crowley Student Union will be providing gifts for each student and students will be receiving different stoles and/or cords representing the background/communities they belong to. The list for the different ceremonies is listed in the link provided, ceremonies will take place from May 1-17. (Nevada Today)
- On Wednesday, the Micromobility Pilot report received approval from the Reno City Council, details were included on what the project is, what it aims to do, and what is coming next. The project began to take place last summer and fall and over 1,000 people within the city were surveyed for their opinions and feedback. There were many questions from city council members that were answered already but many answers still have to come at a later date for full clarity. The downtown area is the first targeted area so a connected focal point is established, if all goes according to plan then action may begin in late May or early June. (KOLO)
- The Reno Fire Department responded to an unusual rescue request on Wednesday as firefighters assisted the Nevada Department of Wildlife in rescuing a bear from a tree. The bear was found stuck in a tree in the South Meadows area and it took all hands on deck to safely remove the bear from the tree as well as keep all those involved in the rescue safe from any potential accidents. Just last week the Department of Wildlife sent out a call to the community to make sure they are "bear-proofing" their homes as this time of the year bears wander into communities searching for food in trashcans. - A new study by Bumper.com found that electric vehicle 'charging deserts' – places where charging stations and ports are in short supply – stretch across states, largely divided by economic and racial lines. On average in Nevada, there are 17.63 charge ports per 10,000 people. Learn more about EV charging rates in Nevada and nationwide at the link. (Bumper.com)
- Earlier this week the Reno Police Department celebrated Denim Day, showing off their jeans around the station and downtown. Denim Day brings awareness to sexual assault and aims to support survivors and educate others. (Reno Police Department via Facebook)
