- The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) shared earlier this week they will be seeking public comments about the progression of the proposed Libra Solar Project. This project is intended to generate close to 700 megawatts of electricity on 5,500 acres of public land and be installed just 55 miles southeast of Reno. It includes construction, operation, and subsequent decommissioning of photovoltaic solar modules and accompaniments such as Lyon County's powerline. (mcindependentnews.com)
- On Wednesday, Apr. 26, the Reno Fire Department and wildlife officials helped rescue a bear that was stuck in a tree. Fighters worked with the Nevada Department of Wildlife to devise a plan that included tranquilizing the bear and using a large tarp to catch the bruin once it fell from the tree. Officials confirm that the bear was originally spooked and ended up climbing into the tree for safety. (MSN.com)
- During Saturday's annual Great Community Cleanup, a Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful spokesperson said that 806 volunteers helped to remove 42.21 tons of trash and 16.5 tons of weeds and green waste throughout Reno. The volunteers visited around different 26 locations throughout the community and helped pick up trash, spread mulch in parks, and plant nearly 70 trees, as well as 1,623 different plants. These efforts are meant to keep the community clean, improve the city's urban tree canopy, and promote natural ecology. (KOLO)
