Here are the top three stories in Reno today:
- A Reno man has been sentenced to life in prison for beating his elderly father to death. Darnell Smith, 39, was charged with murdering his father in 2020 after police found the elderly man dead and wrapped in a blanket in the home he shared with his son. Smith claimed his father was making too much noise one morning, leading to Smith bashing his father's head against the floor. Smith will be eligible for parole after serving at least 20 years of his sentence. (KOLO)
- On Monday, Reno police arrested a man for allegedly crashing his car into a police vehicle while trying to elude them. Officers were called to Panther Valley Self Storage after reports of a burglary came in. Although the man was not a suspect in the burglary, he still fled from authorities and was subsequently arrested. As of Wednesday evening, police have not released the suspect's name or charges made against him. (KOLO)
- Using the internet to shop for a house can be a somewhat inefficient process. Images won't always show all the fun little details, and they can often make a fixer-upper look quite a bit cuter than it is in real life. That’s the major benefit of a local open house: no more guessing! For all the house hunters in the Reno area, we’ve listed the five latest houses to hit the local market, with information included on the next scheduled open house. Happy house hunting! (Reno Patch)
