- On Tuesday, nine individuals were successfully rescued from the Truckee River near Crissie Caughlin Park in Reno after their raft overturned. Emergency response teams, including the Reno Fire Department and the Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, promptly arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the incident at around 6:20 p.m. Authorities emphasized the importance of caution, particularly during warmer temperatures and increased snowmelt, as the river's conditions can become hazardous. - Two California minor league hockey players, Dominic Jones and Moses Matthews III, have been found guilty of sexual assault in Reno following an incident that occurred in February 2022. The assault took place after a game between the Santa Rosa Growlers and the Reno Ice Raiders, where Jones, Matthews, and Josiah Nikkel were present. The 20-year-old victim reported meeting the three players at a local bar and going back to the hotel with Matthews, but later Jones and Nikkel forced themselves onto her, with Matthews taking pictures of the victim without her consent. While Jones and Matthews were convicted, Nikkel was found not guilty, and the sentencing is scheduled for Jul. 13. (KRNV)
- The SPCA of Northern Nevada and Wonder Aleworks are teaming up for the second annual "Woof and Wonder" fundraising event. On Saturday, May 20, at Wonder Aleworks in Reno's Midtown District, 10 percent of all food sales will be donated to the SPCA of Northern Nevada. Attendees can contribute through Venmo or cash donations, bring much-needed items, or simply enjoy exclusive event cocktails and food while supporting homeless pets. The event will take place at 1041 S. Virginia Street. (KOLO)
