- The University of Nevada Reno’s police department has been awarded an $11,000 grant to help improve traffic safety. Through the program, the department will team up with various law enforcement agencies to educate motorists and pedestrians about Nevada roadway laws and prevent traffic incidents. The department also received a $7,000 grant to support a Pedestrian and Vulnerable Road User Safety campaign. (KOLO)
- A Reno resident and former Nevada deputy attorney general appeared in court Monday after being arrested last week on a second-degree murder warrant out of Hawaii. Police say 77-year-old Tudor Chirila stabbed a woman to death in her Honolulu apartment building in 1972. Chirila will return to court for a Governor’s Warrant Hearing on Dec. 5 to determine whether his extradition from Reno to Hawaii will happen. (2 News)
- The City of Reno is still accepting applications from community organizations to appear in the annual Veteran’s Day Parade on Friday, Nov. 11. The theme of this year’s parade is “Honor,” reflecting the military value and tradition of answering the call of duty. Local organizations can sign up for a spot in the parade until Monday, Oct. 24, at 5:00 p.m. (Press Release Desk)
