  1. Those in the Reno and Tahoe area who plan to be outside this weekend should be mindful of near water as a flood warning has been issued to Northern Nevada due to expected rapid snowmelt. From Thursday to Sunday the area is expected to have its season's first heatwave with Saturday being the hottest day, Reno is expected to see temperatures reach the upper 80s. The National Weather Service again is advising all those getting outside during the warm weather to be mindful around the main stems of the Carson River and the Walker and Susan Rivers as they are both being monitored. 2. On Saturday, July 8, the Pops on the River concert series will be returning to Reno at the Glow Plaza Festival Grounds starting at 8 p.m., tickets are on sale online right now. This year's theme will be "The Music of Motown" and homage will be paid to the iconic era of the 60s when Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, and The Temptations ruled the Billboard Hot 100. It is recommended that you purchase your tickets rather than later as this event has a history of selling out prior to the show. You can buy general admission or table tickets and those at tables will be able to participate in a competition for the best costumes. (KOLO)
  3. James Raymond Ellis, 53, of Reno, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by five years on parole for dealing after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Ellis pled guilty back in December 2022 and was officially sentenced earlier this week, court records found that he sold over four pounds of methamphetamine and five guns to informants between May and June 2021. When arrested in August 2021, the police seized over 12 pounds of methamphetamine from Ellis's home as well as a handgun he was prohibited from having. Ellis has been convicted previously for possession of a chemical with intent to manufacture a controlled substance. (KOLO)
