- A new proposed bill, Assembly Bill 226, would grant in-state college tuition to recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program who have lived in Nevada for at least a year. The bill would apply to those with temporary protected status and allow them to receive state or college financial aid, in addition to private scholarships. The proposed measure has received support from many; only one person during the hearing, Cyrus Hojjaty, opposed the bill, arguing that it rewards individuals who did not follow immigration laws. (KUNR Public Radio)
- Rylan Joel Wallette, a 35-year-old man from Washoe County, was found guilty of a 2021 assault with a deadly weapon in downtown Reno, according to the Washoe County District Attorney's (WCDA) Office. He was arrested by the Reno Police Department after attacking a female victim with a large fixed-blade knife while she was jogging near the National Automobile Museum. The victim was able to run away and call the police, and Wallette was quickly identified and arrested. His sentencing is scheduled for late this year. (KRNV)
- The City of Reno Parks Department is organizing a free Rose Pruning Demonstration this Saturday, Apr. 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Event attendees will learn about the pruning requirements of various rose types and the best time of year to prune them in the Reno area. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves and sharp bypass pruners to the demonstration, which will be followed by an opportunity to help maintain the Reno Municipal Rose Garden's 1500+ rose bushes. American Rose Society and City of Reno Horticulturist consulting rosarians will be present to answer questions about rose culture and pruning. (Press Release Desk)
