- In Reno, local artist, photographer, and disability activist Connor Fogal is pushing for change in the right to repair electric wheelchairs. Fogal, who has a severe case of Cerebral Palsy and relies on his electric wheelchair, experienced a seven-month delay when his chair broke down last year, leaving him unable to go anywhere or do anything. Along with other disabled Nevadans, Fogal is using Colorado's Consumer Rights to Repair Act as a blueprint to encourage Nevada to adopt a similar act, which would allow them to repair their power wheelchairs promptly and without bureaucratic hurdles. (KRNV)
- The Nevada Supreme Court will hear the GPS tracking case involving Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, which centers on private investigator David McNeely’s surveillance of Schieve and former Washoe County Commissioner Vaughn Hartung with a GPS device. The case will likely be scheduled for at least a month or two down the road, and the legal wrangling has been relatively quick for the court system. The attorney of the anonymous person behind the spying, called "John Doe" in court documents, sought a last-minute delay to stop the identity of who hired McNeely from being revealed. McNeely's attorney is going to the Nevada Supreme Court to keep the name a secret. (Reno Gazette Journal)
- The Nevada Prayer Breakfast is set to take place on May 17 at the Atlantis Casino, welcoming people of all beliefs and backgrounds to unite for peace and unity. Representatives from a variety of faith traditions, including Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Baha’i, Hindu, Buddhist, and others, will gather to share their respective cultures and traditions. Speakers include Nevada Lieutenant Governor Stravoros Anthony, Assemblywoman Angie Taylor, and Reno Arts and Culture Commission Chair Mark Salinas, while the event will be hosted by KOLO 8 Evening Anchor, Noah Bond.
