- The City of Reno's emergency dispatch center can now provide medical instructions to callers in certain cases, reducing the number of transfers and potential loss of information. Dispatchers have undergone training since February to provide CPR instructions and other life-saving guidance over the phone. With almost two-thirds of calls to the Reno Fire Department for emergency medical needs, this new capability has the potential to improve response times and save lives. (KUNR Public Radio)
- On Monday morning, a man and his dog were rescued after their truck became stranded in the snow near Peavine Peak. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office deployed their Search and Rescue Team, Incident Management Team, and Specialized Vehicles Unit, using a Pisten Bully snowplow and side by sides to locate the pair. Eventually, the man and his dog were found and safely escorted out of the area. (KTVN)
- The Reno Police Department issued a warning to residents regarding a phone scam where scammers are posing as officers or sergeants from the department and demanding payment to avoid arrest. The scammers use the names of actual officers to make the call appear legitimate. However, the department does not collect payments for legal matters and advises residents to hang up and contact the Reno Police Department Records division if they receive such a call. (KTVN)
