- On Thursday, May 11, a bipartisan group of lawmakers from Nevada announced a bill that would provide huge tax credits designed to bring more film production opportunities to the southern part of the state. The bill would include a $1 billion Sony expansion and focus on diversifying southern Nevada's gaming and tourism-reliant economy, which took a hard hit during the pandemic. Unlike Nevada's deals with Tesla and Redwood Materials, these tax credits would only be used following the completion of the films at studios built by these private developers. (This Is Reno)
- Late Friday night, a driver in Washoe County was arrested for driving under the influence after almost hitting a local police officer head-on. According to the officer, they were conducting their nightly rounds when they were suddenly met with a vehicle coming straight at them while driving on the opposite side of the road. Luckily, the officer was able to maneuver his vehicle out of the truck's path to avoid being hit. (2News.com)
- A Catholic priest who was suspended from ministry at a northwest Reno church will now be moving to serve at Douglas County Church beginning on Saturday, Jul. 1. Father Patrick Klekas was originally suspended for having an inappropriate relationship with an adult woman back in 2020 while he was serving as the associate pastor for St. Albert the Great Parish. The priest has participated in a variety of counseling sessions since the alleged relationship, as well as discernment away from the diocese, which was completed in April. (KOLO)
