  1. This past Friday, the city of Reno ordered that construction of the Reno Iron Works facility near the SPCA shelter must halt until the court case is settled. The SPCA of Northern Nevada recently sued to stop construction of the building due to distress and other factors it would cause the animals hoping to be adopted; the initial lawsuit was thrown out in December but reheard on Apr. 11. It was determined under further review and petitions from the public that the increased noises and vibrations will harm the homeless pets and slow down the adoption process. All construction will be on standby now until the court case is officially resolved. (KRNV)
  2. The Reno Food Systems non-profit will begin hosting its first 'Farm Sessions' concerts this week. These monthly events will be taking place on the last Thursday of every month and offer music, drinks, and desserts for its members, volunteers, and soon-to-be members. This Thursday, Rachael McElhiney will be the guest and Mike Moberly will be crafting the drink; several local artists will also bring their talents to the event. The event will start at 5 p.m. and go until around sundown on Mayberry Drive at McCarran Boulevard in Reno. If you would like to become a member, it will only be a $5 donation at any event. (This Is Reno)
  3. Local non-profit 'Awaken' is set to benefit from the second annual Burpee Mile hosted by Kaia FIT Sierra, a women's fitness and nutrition organization with four locations in the Reno-Sparks area. The goal of this run is to support the non-profit whose primary mission is to build awareness and education around sex trafficking and to provide housing and restoration for victims of sexual misconduct. The event will take place this Saturday at the McQueen High School Track in Reno starting at 7:30 a.m., and registration for this event is $39 per person. Last year the event raised $5,000 and this year's goal is to double that number; you can sign up for the event here or day of at the event. (KTVN)
