Reno Standoff Suspect Arrested

A standoff followed a robbery at a South Reno Wal-Mart on Monday, police said.

RENO, NV - A 26-year old Reno man is in custody and has been charged with robbery with a deadly weapon and obstructing and resisting police officers following a standoff on Monday.

Reno Police received a call around 9:30 a.m. on Monday from Wal-Mart on Keitzke Ln. in South Reno. Police said Anthony Anderson had allegedly just stolen items from the store. When employees confronted him about the theft, Anderson pointed a gun at them, according to police.

Officers from RPD, Nevada Highway Patrol, and Washoe County Sheriff's Office responded and closed traffic to the surrounding area. According to a release, RPD began negotiation with the suspect on the scene. The suspect refused to cooperate and police distracted him with "non-lethal munitions" and a police dog, which allowed police to take him into custody. He was treated for minor injuries stemming from the arrest and is in custody.
