  1. On Apr. 5, students across the U.S. walked out of their classes to protest against gun violence, including students at Reno's Damonte Ranch High School. The school's walkout was sparked by a recent code red incident at the school. Students expressed fear and emotion, stating that they wanted to create a change for future generations and emphasizing the need for stricter gun regulations and mental health evaluations. Despite being marked as truant by their teachers, many students believed that their actions were necessary to raise awareness about the seriousness of the issue. (KTVN)
  2. Governor Joe Lombardo has appointed Clara Andriola to fill the District 4 seat on the Washoe County Commission in place of Vaughn Hartung. Andriola is the executive director of the Reno Rodeo Foundation and has also served in leadership roles for the Associated Builders and Contractors Nevada Chapter and the American Red Cross. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving the community and is eager to begin her work for Washoe County. (KRNV)
  3. On Apr. 29, The Hot August Nights Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports at-risk or in-need children in the community, will host its annual fundraiser dinner, Classics & Cocktails. The event, taking place at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, will have a Starry Starry Night theme and will raise funds for building a library at their partner school, Jessie Hall Elementary School. Since 2007, the Foundation has raised over $1.3 million in cash, merchandise, and scholarships to support various assistance programs for those in-need and at-risk children in the community. (KOLO)
