  1. Reno's Cinco de Mayo Festival is expanding this year to three days of festivities at the new Glow Plaza Festival Grounds, making it Northern Nevada's largest celebration of Hispanic heritage. The event will feature a full carnival of rides, top Regional Mexican Music bands, vocal, dance, and talent demonstrations on two stages, and up to 100 vendors offering food, art, crafts, community services, and information. The festival will run from Friday, May 5, at 4:00 p.m. through Sunday, May 7, at the J Resort (670 W. 4th Street, Reno) at 8:00 p.m., and everyone is invited to join in the fun. (KOLO)
  2. In early May, the Forest Service will be conducting prescribed burns in the Whites Creek area near Reno, covering approximately 20 acres, with an additional 21 acres to be burned later. Smoke will be visible in south Reno, and officials are requesting that people not report it as fire departments are aware of the project. The burns will occur off of Mt. Rose Highway, weather permitting, and near the Whites Creek Trailhead parking lot west of Timberline Road. (KTVN)
  3. The City of Reno is organizing the "Biggest Little Spring Clean" event from May through June. The program allows residents to dispose of items such as one large appliance per household, electronics, batteries, bicycles, and large trash and debris in multiple locations on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. However, residents may be turned away once the bins are full. Those who wish to volunteer or have questions can contact Ciera Lindsay at lindsayci@reno.gov. (KRNV)
