- One person was killed late Wednesday night near the University of Nevada, Reno in what officials have described as an apparent self-defense shooting. Officers responded to the scene on Bartlett Street shortly before 11:00 p.m. and discovered a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Reno police or Secret Witness at 775-322-4900. (FoxReno.com)
- Reno families and their canine companions are invited to the Boxers and Buddies 15th Annual Howl-o-ween Party this weekend. Plenty of pups searching for their forever homes will be at the adoption event at Bundox Bocce at The Renaissance this Sunday, Oct. 23, from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Families interested in adopting can also contact Boxers and Buddies directly to learn more about available pets. - A local doughnut shop owner is looking to give incumbent Naomi Duerr some sweet competition in the race to represent Reno's Ward 2 on the city council. DoughBoys Donuts owner Jay Kenny is a first-time candidate who identifies as nonpartisan, while Democratic candidate Duerr has served two terms as a Reno City Council member.
