Here are the top three stories in Reno today:
- A non-compliant registered sex offender, Deadrin Carter, was apprehended in California and brought back to Reno, where he is currently held in the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility on a $40,000 bond. Carter, a 24-year-old Tier 2 sex offender, had failed to register as required and faced multiple charges, including statutory sexual seduction, conspiracy to commit sex trafficking, aiming a firearm at a person, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, child abuse, and lewdness with a child under 16. For any information about Carter, individuals are urged to contact the HEAT Unit at HEAT@reno.gov, which consists of detectives from various law enforcement agencies. (FoxReno.com)
- The City of Reno has opened a masterplan survey to gather public feedback on the future enhancements of downtown parks, emphasizing the importance of community input in shaping the areas along the Truckee River. The project specifically focuses on Wingfield and Barbara Bennett Park, aiming to plan long-lasting improvements that cater to diverse age groups, abilities, and interests. The survey, found here, is open until Jun. 16. (KRNV)
- The Reno Air Racing Association has opened bidding for airports and localities interested in hosting future Air Races, as the event will be held in Stead for the last time this September. The Association aims to grow the event for future generations and is considering various options, such as hosting all seven race classes in one location or organizing a multi-city series of race events. The selection committee, composed of experienced members, is confident in finding the best location for the continued success of the National Championship Air Races. (KOLO)
