  1. The University of Nevada, Reno's child care facilities have reduced operational hours. The change is due to ongoing staffing shortages. The facilities provide child care to the university's students, faculty, and staff. The facilities will begin closing at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday next week instead of 5:30 p.m. (Reno Gazette Journal)
  2. The Reno area is experiencing a period of "very unhealthy" air due to wildfire smoke blowing into the area. The warning was issued by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection after the Mosquito Fire smoke entered the area. It is unclear if the air quality will impact the Great Reno Balloon Race.   3. The Reno City Council has chosen Kathleen Taylor to fill the empty Ward 5 council seat. Taylor has served on the city's planning commission since 2019. She will serve the remainder of the term through the 2024 election. She was sworn in on Wednesday. (KRNV)
