Here are the top three stories today in Reno:
- Tesla is seeking approval from the Governor's Office for Economic Development (GOED) for $412 million in tax abatements and reimbursements to expand their Nevada gigafactory, with a requirement of $3.5 billion in capital investments and a promise to invest in employee housing, transportation, and child care. The details of the package were revealed with the publishing of Tesla's tax abatement application on Monday morning, ahead of a GOED meeting where a board of elected officials and private-sector business people are set to vote on the incentive package later this week. - The seventh annual Reno Women's March will take place on Mar. 25 at 1 p.m., celebrating the power of one person to make a difference and honoring three women who left a lasting legacy on the community. The March will start at the Courthouse and Federal Building, moving to Believe Plaza for speeches and entertainment, followed by a Community Action Fair at the Downtown Reno Library where attendees can meet with nonprofit organizations. - A City of Reno proposal to increase stormwater fees for residents and businesses has caused concerns among some residents. Stormwater is the rain or melted snow that does not soak into the ground, and the city needs $440 million over the next two decades for stormwater conveyance projects and repairs, with current operations funded through sewer fees. The proposed fee increase would generate approximately $11.6 million annually to pay for stormwater management. (Reno Gazette Journal)
