Here are the top three stories in Reno today:
- Western Nevada College's accountant Cherrice Dotson hand painted a patriotic mural near the entrance of the Veterans Resource Center that tributes both her love of art and the military. This mural was the Carson City Leadership Institute Class of 2023's project and its official unveiling ceremony will coincide with Flag Day on Wednesday, Jun. 14. Dotson presented this idea to the class and was delighted when they agreed as she personally served in the U.S. from 1985 to 1988 at Fort Carson working as a motor vehicle operator. (Nevada Appeal)
- This past weekend, the Reno Police Department conducted a pedestrian safety operation that resulted in them issuing over 60 citations. This operation was intended to focus on areas that have accumulated high pedestrian accidents, as well as complaints from local residents. Overall, there were 17 additional warnings issued and one misdemeanor arrest took place during their efforts. (KOLO 8 News)
- According to a recent filing from the Securities and Exchange Commission, PNC Financial Services Group cut its position in Monarch Casino & Resort, Inc. (MCRI) by 4.7 percent. During the fourth quarter, this mega-company owned around 6,882 shares of MCRI's stock and sold more than 300 of those shares. There were several other large investment corporations and institutional investors who changed their position with MCRI as PNC's shares were worth a total of $529,000. Established in 1993, the company has its headquarters situated in Reno. (Defense World)
