- Yesterday (Apr. 18), Vice President Kamala Harris was scheduled to participate in a moderated conversation at the University of Nevada, Reno. The focus of the discussion was the Biden-Harris Administration's commitment to protecting reproductive freedom, with a particular emphasis on abortion rights. No further details were available about the visit as of the time of this writing. (KTVN)
- Northern Nevada Waste Management is holding Free Dump Days at Lockwood Regional Landfill to encourage responsible waste disposal and reduce illegal dumping in open spaces. Eligible items for disposal include household appliances and bulky waste, while commercial customers will be charged normal rates. Residents of Reno, Sparks, Unincorporated Washoe County, and Storey County are eligible to participate and can bring items for disposal from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Tuesday-Saturday now through Apr. 22 and Apr. 25-29. (KTVN)
- Brighton Denison, the new organizer of the Earth Day festival in Reno, has successfully revived the event after it was canceled earlier in the year and is determined to make it a sustainable event this time. Despite the anticipated loss of $20,000 for his company Great American Craft Fairs, which cannot take donations, Denison believes the prestige of running Earth Day is worth it. He aims to create a sustainable Earth Day event on Apr. 22 at Idlewild Park by increasing the focus on education, incentivizing sustainability through a raffle, and restricting food vendors' use of to-go materials.
