Here are the top three stories today in Reno:
- The Reno Fire Department contained a brush fire on Friday afternoon. The fire started in west Reno near Pinehaven Road around 2:19 p.m. The department asked residents to avoid the area as crews worked to contain the spread. Crews worked to ensure that the fire would not impact additional areas outside the containment zone. (KOLO)
- The Reno City Council has decided to appoint a new Ward 5 council member. The seat was vacated by Neoma Jardon. The council decided to appoint a new member instead of holding a special election due to concerns that the position could remain unfilled for up to 8 months. The position should be filled by Sep. 7. Applications will be collected through Friday, Aug. 19. (KOLO)
- Washoe County And the City Of Reno have announced the expansion of their participation in nZero. The 24/7 carbon management platform is meant to support organizations' efforts in meeting climate change goals. The expansion effort will now create carbon reduction roadmaps. The county and city plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 28 percent by 2025. (Press Release Desk)
