  1. The Washoe County Human Services Agency is hosting a series of events to celebrate Older Americans Month, beginning with a senior fair on May 3. A special lunch will be served for seniors 60 and older for a suggested donation of $2 at the Washoe County Senior Services Center in Reno from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The events are a collaboration between several organizations and can be found in the Older Americans Month program available at various locations throughout Washoe County, including at Reno City Hall and county libraries.   2. On May 15 at 9:30 a.m., a special meeting will be held at Reno City Hall to discuss concerns and complaints about the operations and management of the Nevada Humane Society. The Washoe County Regional Animal Services Advisory Board wants to question the society's CEO, Greg Hall, about the growing number of complaints against him covering a range of issues, including shelter operations, personnel issues, and finances. The meeting will be open to the public. (FoxReno.com)
  3. Now through Friday, the Nevada Air National Guard's 152nd Airlift Wing is conducting readiness training at Reno-Tahoe International Airport, which may cause the public to hear sirens, tones, and voice messages in the surrounding areas. The Air Guard assures the public not to be alarmed, as this training will also increase C-130 flying operations and evaluate their readiness for worldwide missions. The main purpose of this exercise is to train and improve their mission readiness. (KOLO)

  • In nearby Sparks, Mendive Middle School was placed on a code yellow lockdown on Monday as a precautionary measure during a WCSD police investigation. The lockdown was announced and lifted by the Washoe County School District within a matter of minutes. No threats were made, and the safety of the students and staff was ensured. (KTVN)
  • Animal Ark Reno announced the death of its coyote, Sadie. She lived for 16 wonderful years at Animal Ark and passed surrounded by some of her keepers. (Animal Ark Reno via Instagram)
