  1. The Reno Fire Department's Water Entry Team (WET) has begun flood water rescue and swift water rescue training due to the heavy winter snow melting in the mountains and increasing water levels in the Truckee River. With water levels double their usual height and strong currents, officials warn against swimming or letting children in the water. The team of 36 firefighters has been training with their motorboats and is cautioning people to stay out of the water unless proficient in kayaking or rafting. (KOLO)
  2. One Reno restaurant is keeping jazz alive in the area through its popular event. Jazz Night at the Laughing Planet Cafe is a popular event among students from the University of Nevada, Reno, and casual jazz enthusiasts, where they can experience the bygone era of jazz music. Students often perform at the event, as it's one of the few regular spots in town where people can watch jazz performances. The Laughing Planet Cafe's North Virginia Street location hosts Jazz Night every Wednesday from 7:30-9:30 p.m. (KUNR Public Radio)
  3. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office participated in a two-week regional Joining Forces event aimed at curbing speeding, resulting in 138 violations, 145 traffic stops, five distracted driving violations, and 13 other citations. The program is part of an ongoing effort to enhance safety on Nevada's roads and is supported by grants from the Nevada Department of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety. Joining Forces is a law enforcement program that spans multiple jurisdictions and is designed to address issues such as DUI, distracted driving, seat belt usage, speed, and pedestrian safety. (KOLO)
