- The Washoe County School District (WCSD) is investigating an incident at North Valleys High School after a cheerleading coach distributed ribbons with insulting messages to students at an end-of-season party. Amaya Orpiada, a 15-year-old freshman, received a ribbon that accused her of not practicing enough and being a stalker, and described her as “DRAMA, DRAMA, DRAMA.” Other ribbons also contained hurtful messages. The incident has distressed students and parents alike and prompted an apology from the school’s principal, Desiree Mandeville. WCSD has launched an investigation into the matter and called the incident “contrary to everything for which our school district stands.” (Reno Gazette Journal)
- A new crime wave is sweeping through northern Nevada, with gas stations being targeted by thieves who are stealing air compressors. The Reno-Sparks area has seen about four gas stations hit by the same group of people. The thieves were caught on surveillance video stealing a 150-pound air compressor from a Sinclair gas station on Pyramid Way in less than six minutes. Gas station owners are concerned about their safety and the safety of their property. They are urging anyone with information on the suspects to contact the Reno or Sparks Police Department. (KRNV)
- A pedestrian was hit by multiple vehicles and died on S. Virginia Street in south Reno on Monday night. The first collision occurred when the person was hit by a northbound vehicle while standing in the road, and then around six more vehicles hit the pedestrian. The reason for the pedestrian being in the road is unknown, and the investigation is ongoing while the drivers involved are cooperating. (KOLO)
