Here are the top three stories today in Reno:

  1. A lucky long-time guest at Atlantis casino in Reno hit the biggest slot machine jackpot in the city's history on Sunday night. With a mere $10 bet, the guest won a staggering $14,005,832.09 jackpot on the Megabucks machine. The casino confirmed with the slot machine manufacturer that this was indeed the largest jackpot win in the history of Reno. (News 4)
  2. 32 first responder agencies across Nevada have partnered with Nevada Donor Network to launch the "Silver State Heroes" campaign during April's National Donate Life Month. The campaign aims to encourage people to register as organ, eye, and tissue donors and involves a competition to determine which agency can conduct the most outreach during the month. Organ donation can make a significant difference, as over 100,000 Americans, including over 600 Nevadans, are currently waiting for an organ transplant. Additionally, the campaign offers a virtual support group for first responders dealing with trauma, a critical resource given the emotional difficulty of deciding to donate a loved one's organs, as former Sparks Fire Captain Eric Millette experienced when his son took his own life. 3. A pedestrian was hit by a Union Pacific train near Sutro Street and East Commercial Way in Reno at approximately 6:45 a.m. on Monday, according to Union Pacific. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, while the train crew was unharmed. No information about the condition of the victim has been released, and the Reno Police Department is investigating the incident. (KOLO)
