Tara Evans, a Grade 7 science teacher, received the Master in the Middle Award at NELMS’s 42nd annual conference in Springfield on March 27-28.

"To know that I make a positive impact within the KRMS community, which is recognized by my peers and administrators to be nominated to NELMS, who then choose me to receive this award, is amazing to me," Evans said. "I am able to do what I do as I have a strong support system in my husband, family, friends, and co-workers. We are all a team that our KRMS kids benefit from."

The Master in the Middle Award recognizes educators who show passion, leadership, and excellence in teaching middle school students, mentor colleagues, model best practices, and build relationships with students and families. Evans was nominated by her KRMS colleagues.

“The Kearsarge community is very fortunate to have Tara as a teacher,” Assistant Superintendent Michael Bessette said. “She is an exemplary model of the dedication and professionalism we seek in our educators. Tara’s excitement for teaching students about the world of science, and making connections with their daily lives, helps to inspire our students to pursue science in their future studies or career paths. She takes great pride in mentoring others, and always seeks to improve her professional practice to bring out the best results in her students.”

"Paying attention to the learning needs of young adolescents and their unique developmental stage can make a significant difference in the lives of 10- to 14-year-olds,” NELMS Executive Director Jeff Rodman said. “Recognizing those middle-level educators is a major part of the work of the Recognitions Committee, who often have a very difficult task choosing the winners.”
