Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for all of New Hampshire between 2 a.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Tuesday, with wind chill temperatures of up to 25 degrees below zero, forecasters say. The report said to limit your exposure to the cold temperatures adding, "The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes." The Arctic cold front may also bring scattered snow showers and snow squalls on Tuesday. Be sure to bundle up, wear layers, and wear a hat and gloves. Temperatures on Wednesday are expected to be warmer. You can read more about this developing story here: (Patch)
- Home Rapid Antigen Tests may be less sensitive in detecting the omicron variant of COVID-19, but the tests are still helpful, according to health officials. Here's why: When virus levels are low, which often happens if someone is infected but not showing symptoms, the test could show a "false negative" result, and test again in three days, said Dr. Yuka Manabe who runs the Center For Innovative Diagnostics for Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins in an NPR interview. Manabe said if you know you've been exposed to COVID-19 and have symptoms, take a rapid test right away. Testing sooner rather than later can help to be eligible for new prescription COVID-19 treatments "that can help lessen the severity." If you test negative and have symptoms, health officials say to "take appropriate measures" and have a PCR test for a more accurate result. (NPR)
