4,000 Local Children Receive School Supplies
Here are five things you should know in Bedford today.

1. 4,000 backpacks? No big deal. Manchester Christian Church (MCC), which has a location in Bedford, partnered with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Wednesday night delivered more than 4,000 backpacks full of school supplies to Manchester-area children and parents who may have otherwise lacked the funds to obtain such supplies.
2. Speaking of back-to-school ... That's right, it's that time of year, and Bedford Patch has you covered! We'll continue to update our exclusive Bedford back-to-school section with bus routes, backpack basics and more!
3. Bedford Try-Athlon. This Sunday, Aug. 18, The Friends of Aine Foundation Kids Try-athlon and jump roping event will be held at the Bedford Memorial Town Pool complex at the corner of Nashua Road and County Road. There will also be a DJ, food, raffle, shirts & bracelets for sale, $1 tattoos! The event is honoring the life of Bedford's Aine Marie Phillips who passed away at 8-years old in August 2010. All proceeds will go toward establishing a long term bereavement center with Home Health and Hospice care in Merrimack. You can register and find out more about the event at www.friendsofaine.com.
4. The weatherman says ... Another lovely, sunny summer day on tap. Forecast calls for sunny skies and a high near 78. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 53.
5. Don't forget your grass skirt! The Purple Finch Café is celebrating two years of great food and fun in Bedford this Thursday, Aug. 22, beginning at 7 a.m. Join the festivities and wear a Hawaiian Shirt, and don't forget to try The Purple Finch's Big Kahuna Burger!
