5 Things: Bedford Road Closure

"Five Things You Need to Know Today in Bedford" is a Patch column that provides readers with essential, daily information at a glance.

1. Roadwork roundup. Pulpit Road will be closed today from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to install closed drainage. Access to 154 Pulpit Road and below, will available via King Road and access to 158 Pulpit Rd and Walsch Road will available from New Boston Road. 2. Grab your broom sticks! The popular third-annual Witch Way to the 5K run/walk takes place this Saturday, Oct, 27. Participants are encouraged to dress up for the run, and the course, which begins at Ross A Lurgio School, will challenge runners and walkers alike.  The race is professionally timed and awards will be presented to the top finishers in each age group, the three best costumes, and some special awards. The proceeds from this race will go to support technology at the Ross A. Lurgio Middle School. The Kids Fun Run starts at 10:30 am and the 5K Run/Walk starts at 11:00 am.

4. The weatherman says ... Partly cloudy skies early transition into a mostly-sunny day. Weather.com is forecasting a high temperature of 62 degrees with a 10-percent chance of rain.

5. On this day ... Oct. 23, 1993, one of the great World Series memories in recent history occurred when the Joe Carter of the Toronto Blue Jays hit walk-off game-winning home run in the Sky Dome to clinch the World Series championship for the Jays. According to History.com:

It was the first time the World Series had ended with a home run since Pittsburgh’s Bill Mazeroski homered to break a 9-9 tie with the Yankees in the seventh game of the 1960 series, and it was the first time in baseball history that a team won the championship with a come-from-behind home run.
