Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- Questions about the buyer of the 220-acre former Laconia State School have put the $500 million project on hold. The buyer’s business partners, including experienced and "big-name firms," publicly identified themselves as part of the team, which includes TFMoran in Bedford, the provider of the project's engineering services, and an experienced construction company, a law practice and architects. Also on the team is Jonathan McCoy, whose company, McCoy’s Sanctuary Care in Rye, had filed for bankruptcy. (New Hampshire Bulletin)
- A new patient-focused infusion clinic with new technology and a better patient "aesthetic" opened its first clinic in Concord on Monday. Local Infusion opened after receiving a $4 million round of funding and said it will also open clinics in Bedford, Nashua and two locations in Maine in early 2023. The clinic offers treatments for "over 40 different conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and Crohn's Disease." (VatorNews)
- New Hampshire schools are trying to meet "a growing demand for special education." In Nashua, the number of special education students tripled in the last four years, in Portsmouth and Bedford, the number has "more than doubled in the same time period." Districts across the state are trying to hire more special education staff and expand programs with federal Covid-19 relief aid, but even with signing bonuses for new hires, "there aren't enough applicants."
