Aitken: 'Don't Mass Up NH,' She Said?

Disturbing email sent to Bedford resident

We can't imagine why Governor Ayotte, after promising not to 'Mass Up NH', signed several bills that would allow predatory developers from out of state to start soliciting homeowners in neighborhoods that were formerly zoned single-family with offers to help turn those neighborhoods into rental zones.

Make no mistake, these companies are not interested in helping you the homeowner, your families, or small business contractors in NH. This would do nothing to help supply or affordability of housing.

These companies seem only interested in buying up properties they can rent for large profits. They do not care that you bought your home in a once-quiet neighborhood but that now your neighborhood could even be turned into an AirBnB or VRBO zone.

The email below was received from a Massachusetts developer by one of Bedford's homeowners. It is legit and it is just the start of the breakdown of the NH Advantage.

Who wants to take responsibility for this?

Hi [recipient’s name redacted],

I’m Sam, I’m representing an ADU builder in NH. I’m looking for people who have considered building an ADU but didn’t know where to start. [Recipient’s address redacted], Bedford is in his range and he’s very familiar with that area.

Since the recent 2025 NH law change, ADUs are much easier to get approved and it’s likely your property in Bedford could have some opportunity here.

ADU’s go by many names, like In-Law Apartment, Converted Garage, Basement Apartment, Tiny Home, Backyard House. They can either be rented out, or owner occupied (great for family moving in) and they are one of the best ways to house aging parents or adult children in this expensive housing market.

My builder manages the entire process: architecture, surveying, engineering, and full construction. He can quickly determine if your property is eligible under the recent NH ADU law change and draw up a detailed quote.

If you’ve ever considered it, I would be happy to schedule a meeting with him to discuss.

Best regards,

Sam
