BEDFORD, NH — Bedford police were able to locate a stray horse and lead it back to its barn early Wednesday morning.

Around 1 a.m., officers were sent to Route 1 for a report of a horse that was seen galloping around the area. According to a report, Officer Nicholas Fiorentino captured the horse and kept her as comfortable as possible while additional officers worked to locate the owner. Another officer, Jeff Drew, walked the horse back to its home, a little more than a mile away, after officers determined where it lived.

The horse slipped out of a barn on the property and wandered away, according to an investigation. Bedford Chief Daniel Douidi thanked community residents who assisted officers in finding and caring for the horse. He said they provided hay, grain, and water, and a horse lead rope, until she could be returned to her barn.
