Bedford Police Schedule Sobriety Checkpoint

Last weekend, New Hampshire State Police and Amherst Police made five arrests at a scheduled sobriety checkpoint on Route 101A.

This coming weekend, Bedford Police, in conjunction with NH State Police Troop B, will conduct a similar checkpoint in Bedford.

Bedford Police Chief John Bryfonski and Colonel Robert Quinn, Director of the New Hampshire State Police have announced the joint effort will take place the weekend of August 2. 

The checkpoint is authorized by the Hillsborough County Superior Court, and will be conducted under guidelines promulgated by the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office.

The New Hampshire State Police and the Bedford Police Department, according to a press release, consider the identification and apprehension of impaired drivers and enforcement of the driving while intoxicated statutes to be a top priority. Sobriety checkpoints, they say, are one of the best methods of deterring the impaired driver.
