Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. Freezing rain and sleet are expected this morning, so drive carefully. A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for Thursday in Bedford from 5 a.m. through midnight, with freezing rain, sleet and icy roads. The National Weather Service advisory urges drivers to "use caution" when driving and to allow extra time for slippery conditions. (Weather.com)
  2. A shoutout to Denise Ricciardi (R) of Bedford, who sponsored legislation in 2021 that increased the share of income local towns and cities receive from the state’s Rooms and Meals Tax. Because of the change, municipalities received "a record $121 million in Rooms and Meals Revenues" in the 2023 fiscal year—a 76 percent increase from $68 million distributed in 2021. Senate President Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) thanked Sen. Denise Ricciardi and former Senate President Chuck Morse "for taking the lead on this issue." (Manchester Ink Link)
  3. The Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains are "Tracking Wildlife in Winter" with two great programs. All Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors, and trek Juniors, are invited on Jan. 22 to "snowshoe your way through the Tin Mountain Conservation Center" in Albany, New Hampshire. Learn about local wildlife living in our state and find out what wild animals do during the winter months. And on Jan. 21, meet at the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center to explore the surrounding areas for signs of wildlife. Sign up now! Registration ends today.
