Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. The Salvation Army Toy Shop will spread joy to more than 2,100 kids this Christmas, including a mother who works as a nursing assistant at an assisted living facility in Bedford. The thankful mom said the gifts will be opened Christmas morning. Her youngest is 11 months, and her oldest is 12. "In all, 1,091 families were expected to receive gifts for 2,137 children." (Subscription/The Union Leader)
  2. A crash Sunday closed Route 101 in Amherst around 5:30 p.m. One person was killed in the head-on collision between Old Manchester Road and Walnut Hill Road on Route 101 in Amherst, authorities said. Additional ambulances responded after callers reported multiple injuries. Amherst firefighters inquired about a medical helicopter that was later canceled. Bedford and Milford police and New Hampshire State Police assisted at the scene. (Patch)
  3. A shoutout to Portsmouth Christian Academy's Brianna Malone, who "saved her best for last." She won "her second straight NHIAA Meet of Champions race, finished runner-up at the New England Cross Country Championships, and placed 13th at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional Championships last month." After her impressive wins, she was named November Athlete of the month, an award given by Union Leader Apple Therapy Services/Bedford Ambulatory Surgical Center/Express MED. Congratulations! (Yahoo!
