Goffstown Firefighters Assist In Rescuing Injured Dog From Woods
Sophie, an 11-year-old missing dog, was hit by a vehicle, ran into the woods. A hiker found the dog, people pulled together for the rescue.

GOFFSTOWN, NH — A large group of people came together to help save the life of an injured dog in Goffstown on Sunday.
An 11-year-old dog named "Sophie" got loose from its owners on Thursday. On Friday morning, the owners found out Sophie was hit by a car and the search began in the woods nearby.
Pauline, the dog's owner, contacted Granite State Dog Recovery, the police, and the local animal shelter. Word about the missing dog was spread quickly on social media including neighbors who were made aware of the missing dog.

On Sunday morning, Sophie was found in the woods by Julie, a hiker, according to the owners.
Goffstown fire was notified that the injured dog was found in the woods and could not walk out and assistance was needed. Sophie could not use her back legs so firefighters coordinated a plan using tools that would normally be used to rescue people.

Firefighters placed the dog securing in a stokes basket that was secured to a large wheel called a “mule.” The dog was brought out to the roadway where she was transported to the local veterinarian.
Two of Sophie’s family, Jeff, and Nick were part of the removal. Never leaving her side and being the ones to lift her onto the transport. She was very happy to see them, trying to get to them and shaking with excitement according to a family member.
On a social media post, the owner said Sophie has a back injury and will be hospitalized and given treatment and medications.
The owners said, “Gold stars are deserved for everyone”
Sunday night a nurse from the Veterinary Emergency Center of Manchester sent the owners a picture that was posted on social media. “Sophie is getting her meds, eating and resting”
Her family of six are all hoping she responds to treatment and will be able to come home soon.
