Lurgio to Host Science Career Day

Event brings more than a dozen science-based professionals to speak to seventh graders about local career opportunities.

Bedford seventh graders are in for a day of fun, interest and innovation when Lurgio Middle School hosts its first ever Science Career Day on Oct. 11.

The event, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

"The goal of the day is to expose seventh graders to multiple opportunities that exist for a professional working career in the sciences," said Amy Rockwell,  Challenge Program coordinator at Lurgio.

The day, she said, is set to begin with a featured speaker in the BHS Theater and will be followed by students attending two workshops of their choosing. 

Approximately 15 volunteer speakers from Bedford and the surrounding communities will be conducting workshops sharing the daily details of their profession.  Careers ranging from nursing and neurosurgery to wildlife biology and engineering will be represented.
