MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester firefighters, police, and AMR Ambulance responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Central and Lincoln streets Thursday.

On arrival, police found people outside of 341 Central St. screaming for help and a 55-year-old woman with serious injuries from what sources say was a wound to the arm from a shotgun fired at close range. The woman was taken to a local hospital with what police described as serious and life-threatening injuries.

Officers cordoned off the area of the house with crime scene tape and set up a perimeter for several blocks around the scene. A Manchester Police K-9 searched the areas from Central Street to Hayward Street.

While searching, the suspect went to the lobby of the Manchester Police Station on Valley Street, which is about four blocks from the scene of the shooting and turned himself in, according to police. He was identified as Francisco Garcia, 33, of Manchester. Garcia was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and reckless conduct. He also had an active bench warrant and a warrant from another agency, police said.

The suspect was held on preventative detention and is scheduled for arraignment Friday in Manchester District Court.
