MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Police have arrested a local man accused of theft at Market Square Jewelers that occurred on Friday afternoon.

Edward Meiggs, 62, of Manchester, faces charges of Theft by Unauthorized Taking and Falsifying Physical Evidence.

The incident unfolded Friday, around 4:00 PM, when officers responded to a panic alarm at the Elm Street jewelry store.

According to a store employee, a man had entered the shop expressing interest in purchasing a ring. While being shown an item, the suspect allegedly fled the store with the ring without paying.

Manchester Police quickly established a perimeter around the area, aided by a detailed description of the suspect provided by the clerk.

Officers also reviewed surveillance footage, which led to the swift identification of a man matching the description nearby, police say he was identified as Edward Meiggs.

During his detention, Meiggs reportedly attempted to conceal a ring under his foot. Officers successfully recovered the item, confirming it was the stolen merchandise from Market Square Jewelers.

Meiggs was taken into custody and is scheduled to be arraigned today at Manchester District Court.
