Police Reveal Information On Deceased Newborn Left In Manchester Pond

Manchester investigators say the newborn was left there between March 25 and March 27. A $2,500 reward has been announced to help with tips.

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester police held a press conference Wednesday at the location where a deceased newborn was found last week.

Police had previously asked for information and sightings covering a two-week period. However, at this point in the investigation, they said the infant was left in the water between March 25 and March 27. Police mentioned the investigation narrowed it down to that time period, but they would not say how that was determined.

Manchester Police Chief Peter Marr said they have received about 50 tips since asking the public for assistance. Some of those tips have included photos people took in the area and helping determine when the ice was no longer in the pond.

Before the press conference, New Hampshire State Police walked two K-9s through the wooded area around the pond. Shortly after exiting the woods, two detectives entered the same area with evidence collection tools. A short time later, one of the detectives carried a brown paper bag, which is usually used to collect evidence.

The infant's body was reported last Thursday around 4 p.m. when someone saw an item in the water. Firefighters removed the item, and it was quickly determined to be an infant that sources said still had the umbilical cord attached and was only a short distance from the shore.

Marr said a thorough autopsy revealed relevant information in the case and additional tests were underway. He refused to divulge any specific information to protect the investigation's integrity.

Police ask for tips about anyone pregnant in late March, is no longer pregnant and does not have a newborn baby with them. A reward of $2,500 is being offered for information leading to answers about what happened to the baby.

Police said that people who did not see anything or do not know anything can still be helpful by sharing updates about this case on social media.
