Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. Families with pets are facing a new challenge—the rising cost of care. "More people are giving up pets because they can no longer afford them," shelter officials said. One family had to make the difficult decision to bring their loving, sweet 5-year-old beagle Opal to the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire, when they couldn't afford the $12,000 surgery she needed. Find out more about Opal and other pets here: (WMUR)
  2. Join Jo Hendry of the Bedford Recreation Department and Kathleen Ports of the Bedford Planning Department for a Moonlight Snowshoe Hike at Earl G. Legacy Park. Hike on a winding train around tree roots and rocks by moonlight and learn about New Hampshire's nocturnal winter animals on this family hike for ages 5 and up on Jan. 6 at 5:30 p.m. If there is snow, the hike/walk will be in snowshoes. Bring your gear, dress in layers, and an empty cup for a hot beverage after the hike! Find out more and sign up here: (Town of Bedford via Facebook)
  3. Forget where you parked your scooter? Finding your Segway-Ninebot scooter may now be a lot easier! Segway announced a partnership with Apple to integrate its Find My Smart Technology into its 2023 scooter product line. Riders will now be able to find their Smart scooter using the Find My app with an iPhone, iPad, or Mac computer. Segway was founded in Bedford, New Hampshire. (StreetInsider.com)
