Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. Hear "Songs & Stories from World War I" with “Ramblin’ Richard” at the Bedford Public Library, Sunday, Nov. 6 from 2:30-4 p.m. This free concert and program, presented by the Concert and Cookies series, covers the major events of “The War to End All Wars" through songs perfumed by Richard on guitar and baritone ukulele. “Ramblin’ Richard” Kruppa is a professor from Bowling Green State University and is a member of the New England Foundation for the Arts. Light refreshments will be served by the Friends of the Bedford Library during intermission. Space is limited. Sign up for this event here: (Bedford Patch)
  2. A man has been charged for the alleged road rage shooting on South Willow Street by the Mall of New Hampshire. Police were called after reports that "a person had been shot in the roadway" around 3:30 p.m Saturday on South Willow Street. They arrived to find Dzemal Cardakovic, 45, of Londonderry, dead from a gunshot wound. Witnesses said a car was "starting and stopping in traffic" and police said, "a suspect reportedly fled the scene in a blue 2015 Honda CRV." On Sunday, authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyrese Harris of Manchester. He has been charged "with two counts of second-degree murder." (Patch)
  3. Bedford resident, Anne Grossi, discussed the impact of high energy costs on small businesses at a Town hall about utility rate hikes at The Discovery Center in Concord on Oct. 27. She noted that a family-owned restaurant she goes to in Manchester that has "only been open for two years, is barely making it with the utility costs rising," noting that "their electrical bill has more than doubled." New Hampshire’s consumer advocate and panelist, Donald Kreis, said ratepayers could switch to less expensive suppliers that can be found on the NH Department of Energy website. "Focusing on renewable energy and breaking down obstacles" for "solar, wind, and other alternative energy sources will help customers reduce their electricity bills," the article noted. Patch deal of the day:

Good knives make all the difference in the kitchen, but you don’t need to overpay for them. Seido Japanese knives are made with strong high-carbon stainless steel (high-carbon knives are more durable and usually more expensive) and have an acute 15-degree angle for a noticeably sharper cutting face (most Western-style knives have edge angles of 25 degrees). For a limited time, Patch readers can get a 5-piece Seido Japanese master knife set for 71 percent off. At just under $70, this chef-quality set is perfect for any home cook and would also make a great gift for the holidays.
