Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- Light snow is expected after midnight on Thursday continuing until late Friday afternoon, with the highest accumulations expected near the coastline "depending on the track of the storm," according to WMUR meteorologist Kevin Scarupa. He said there is a 12-hour window for light snow "between about 3 a.m. to 3 p.m." with the most snow falling during the morning commute, which may create slippery driving conditions. At this time, about 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected from Concord to the north and west, with up to 3 to 5 inches possible in southeastern areas, and 4 to 7 inches possible on the coast. You can read more and track the snowfall here: (WMUR)
- What happens to your Christmas tree after you take it down? Many cities and towns have restrictions on how you can dispose of your tree. Marc Morgan, the solid waste manager for Lebanon, said putting trees in a landfill "isn’t great for the environment," as they take up valuable landfill space and contribute to methane "greenhouse gas" emissions when they decompose. Millions of Christmas trees are disposed of in January around the country. According to Morgan, better and more environmentally friendly options are available, like putting the trees through a chipper to make mulch products. He added that some trees have already found new life this season "as feed for alpacas." In Bedford, you can bring your tree to the Bedford Transfer Station on Chubbuck Road.
