Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- A car driven by a Massachusetts woman crashed into the Bedford toll booth on Sunday causing the car to roll over, New Hampshire State Police said. Elizabeth Johnson, 84, of Groton, struck the concrete barrier with her 2023 Subaru Forrester after she wasn't able to negotiate the toll lane, a state police public information officer said. Johnson and her passenger, Frederick Merk, 87, were taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester with minor injuries. The accident closed Lane 3 of the southbound toll plaza for about an hour. (Bedford Patch)
- You may see helicopters hovering above the tree line in Bedford starting in October as Eversource crews work within the Bedford power line corridor. The power line work in Bedford begins in October and will be performed Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The project "is expected to be completed by the first Quarter of 2024." (Town of Bedford via Facebook)
- The Animal Rescue League is celebrating microchips! An adult male cat was brought to the shelter after a good Samaritan tried to capture him and bring him to safety — and was finally able to bring him to the shelter. A quick scan for a microchip reunited this cat, named Dude, to his owners. He had been missing since June when renovations to their home led to him accidentally getting out. Make sure your pets microchip contact information is up to date. "Welcome home, Dude!" (The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire)
- Have you seen this woman? The Bedford Police Department is asking for help to identify the individual pictured in surveillance footage in connection to a shoplifting incident at HomeSense that happened on Sept. 29. Please reach out to the Bedford Police department here: (Facebook)
